Week 19: February 26th & 28th- Working on your own

These are ideas for you to do during the week beginning on Monday 26th February, in which English classes are cancelled due to C1 examinations.
Remember we're having a wonderful talk in English on Wednesday 28th at 19 h. at the Assembly room on the ground floor. It's by David Sánchez, from Al Gore's Climate Reality Project and it'll take about an hour. Hope to see you all there!
By Monday March 5th I would like you to have written the five questions on the video on tourist attractions and the paragraph using descriptive vocabulary, read the texts on pages 77 and 72 and Al Gore's website and practised some speaking on Talk English.

DAY 1: listening, writing and reading

  • Watch this video on unsual tourist attractions and devise five questions for your classmates. They can't be answered with opinions. Have a key prepared.
  • Read Around the Grand Canyon on page 77 and do exercise 3.
  • Write a paragraph on a place you have visited (where you went, what you did, what you saw, what it was like...) using vocabulary from exercise 3 on page 77. Don't mention the name of the place. When you read it to your classmate see if they can guess about the place you're talking about.

DAY 2: listening, speaking and reading

  • Warm up your English as if you were at the school: Go to Talk English.com and practise with some of the interactive lessons. Ex. Greeting Interactive Practice. Listen to Listen All and then choose Person A or B and say aloud the other part in the silence provided. The best practice would be to record yourself, listen to your recording and compare it to the original.

Tomorrow's Plan Interactive Practice
Yesterday Interactive Practice.
Movies Interactive practice.

  • Do the reading DANGER! Dying languages on page 72 and exercise 3 on the same page.
  • As we're going to have the possibility of seeing Al Gore's documentaries, read a little bit about his project: The Climate Reality Project. Do the quiz to see whether you are an activist or not, and scroll down on the home page of the website to read the latest about solutions.
