Week 4: October 30th- Starting unit 2: Survival!

Alma
- We warmed up with questions about different uses of the verb make.
- We started unit 2: Survival.
- We did a listening on surfing and practised different meanings of the verb get.
- We saw the reading Lost in the Sea.
- We revised narrative tenses and practised a little bit.
- We saw a creepy video, Alma, to go on with the Halloween mood.

Homework:
- Page 155, Expressions with get, exercises a and b.
- Page 137: Narrative tenses, exercises b and c.
- Page 23.
- Write your findings on the detective case sheet I gave you. The findings about your investigation of the disappearance of children in the neighbourhood (following the video Alma).
- Find here the key to the diagnostic test.

Week 14: January 23rd & 25th- Arriving to mid-course!

- We revised The Big Bang Theory vocabulary in context (coming, toe touch, bear claw, we'll never know, Thank you, they're my mother's, pedometer, stretch)
- We did You should't have been there from the book, pages 46 and 47, except from exercises 1 to 5.
- We revised present perfect continuous with a speaking exercise with a game of cards.
- We did a couple of exercises (speaking and writing) on the books in English we had recently read: Cards in the book and What's the story?
- We got feedback on the writings of the annecdote and Serial Taxi.
- We did a course evaluation questionnaire.

Homework:
- Exercise 2 page 171, ex.9 page 46.
- Exercises 2,3 4, 6, 7, 8 and 9 pages 152 and 153 in preparation for the next writing task.
- If you read a book in English and you haven't done any writing on it but are willing to, you can do this: Write about 150 words on the end of the book you've read. Explain what the end was, what you thought of it and how you would have changed it in any way and why.

Week 11: December 19th & 21st- Goodbye to 2016

- We exchanged information about the strange countries we had read about.
- We corrected exercise 7 on page 35 to revise cause and result sentences.
- We saw a few structures on how to show understanding in conversations and we practised them with a speaking activity which was also meant to revise present and past habitual actions.
- We did a short test on grammar, vocabulary and reading.
- We practised verb tenses by answering scrambled  questions.
- We saw Serial taxi and wrote an account of it for Gema to correct.
- We exchanged information about our newspapers.
- We sang We Three Kings for the last time and wished the English Department luck in tomorrow's competition!!



Homework: - Read a bit of the newspaper you got to be able to say something about it the next day.
Homework for Christmas:
- Find a positive item of news to tell the class.
- Take photos of the holidays to show your classmates on the first day after holidays.
- Do the writing on page 20 in the workbook

Week 10: December 12th & 14th- Things that go wrong

Sainsbury's
- We imagined Elvis's love-life situation and  gave him advice by using should structures.
- We wrote a plan or promise for him for the wall poster.
- We revised vocabulary of how things can go wrong and saw a moment in which everything went wrong in Mog's Christmas Calamity.
- We practised -ed pronunciation and rhyming.
- We had a look at this year's Christmas Carol, We Three Kings.
- We practised -ed pronunciation with a board game and explanations of questions in the past.
- We started Unit 4: Society. We did page 34, we practised vocabulary on the government, economics and society.
- We worked with a listening about the situation of the countries of two university students.
- We saw the use of so and such in cause and result sentences and practised with the exercises at the grammar reference at the back of the book.

Homework:
- Exercise 7 page 35.
- Research a little about the name of the country I gave you to exchange information in the warming up at the beginning of Monday's class. If you didn't come to class on Wednesday and want to do some research on a country choose one of these: Kiribati, Comoros, Tuvalu or Nauru.
- Revise grammar and vocabulary of the first three units, as we are going to have a little test on grammar and vocabulary, as well as a reading comprehension exercise.

Week 6: November 14th & 16th- Film Festival!!!


- We talked about the films we had read about.
- We read about vocabulary related to films and had a look at the handout we are going to talk about next Monday.
- We saw and guessed a little bit about the trailer of The Intern.
- We did Worth a Visit, pages 20 & 21.
- We worked a listening about extracts related to different places.
- We revise different ways to talk about the future.
- We corrected exercise 2 (and 3 in class A) on page 168.
- We watched The Intern.

Homework:
- Page 21, exercises 7&9.
- Preparation of content for the handout about the film.
